When to use these guidelines and application: use to add a seasonal vegetable/fruit garden to the property.

GUIDELINES FOR AN ANNUAL VEGETABLE/FRUIT GARDEN

To obtain approval to plant a garden, two complete applications including drawings, details and photographs must be submitted to the Muirfield Design Control Committee prior to planting season.

The following guidelines will help you submit a successful application and understand your obligations:

  1. A vegetable/fruit garden requires regular maintenance and must be kept free of weeds.
  2. Gardens must be located at least 10’ from property lines and within the buildable area of the property so that preparation, planting and maintenance can be performed from your property.
  3. Encroaching onto a neighboring property or common area is prohibited.
  4. Plant material must be confined within the defined garden area. Edging material or supports must be confined low to the ground and maintained in good condition at all times. Remove and properly discard dead or diseased parts of plants.
  5. Fencing and mesh screening of any type around the garden, upright frames or supports and other vertical elements are prohibited.
  6. At the end of the growing season, all plantings and debris must be removed from the garden and cleared for next year’s garden or restore the area to original pre-garden condition.
  7. Provide a site plan of the property showing footprint of house, property lines, easements, no-build zones, location and dimensions of the proposed garden.
  8. Provide photos of garden area.
  9. Provide you written commitment that the garden will be kept in good condition at all times.
  10. Provide Design Review fee payment of $20.00.
What to Include with this Application

To avoid delays and to prevent the application from being tabled, please ensure the application is filled out completely and include two copies of the application and two each of all relevant materials (samples, photos, drawings, site maps, brochures, etc.) plus the design review fee. One copy will be returned to the submitter. Include the following:
